"The scene is the near future. Humanity is reeling from the aftermath of a technological cataclysm known only as "the Shutdown". Though the cause remains a mystery, the Unified Governance Initiative (UGI) and its followers blame the electronic entertainment industry, arguing that their wanton power usage led to the collapse of much of the world's grids - and society with it."

"But there are those who wander the world searching for the whole truth - the real truth - and in their adventures seek not only to clear the name of their most sacred pastimes, but to carry forward to a better future those the UGI left behind in their quest to return to a vainglorious past. One such band of heroes we call the "Sprite Riders"... and these are their stories."

The Sprite Riders are a coalition of Luminae - "beings born of light and sound" - that waged a years-long shadow war with the UGI and its adherents in and around the region of Troisroden (twah-row-dun). The Luminae and their supporters struggled mightily, with losses mounting year after year - but then one summer night in 20XX, a UGI research compound in the mountains outside the free state of Corduroy was nearly destroyed in a meltdown. Rumors circled thereafter about the appearance of a Lumina with power rivaling that of the mythical First - the legendary rebel who dared to oppose the UGI at the height of their power, just after the old world collapsed.

Could this wandering "child of light", one of so many others found after the Shutdown, show the beleaguered guild a path to victory, promised by they who wore the Teknokrown so long ago? There was only one way to find out...
